Benign prostatic hyperplasia is an enlargement of the prostate. The prostate surrounds the first part of the urethra just below the bladder. Prostate enlargement results in compression of the urethra and ultimately difficulty in emptying your bladder. As men age, prostate enlargement is a natural development, however some men’s prostates will enlarge more than others. Ultimately, most men will visit a physician in their lifetime to discuss their urination. Symptoms of prostate enlargement include:

Incomplete bladder emptying

Weak urine stream

Dribbling of urine

Trouble starting stream

Symptoms of “Can’t wait”

Getting up multiple times at night to void

The physicians at Athens Area Urology will evaluate and diagnose your enlarged prostate. In addition to medical therapies, we perform a variety of procedures for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
