Dr. Mark F. Ellison is a native of Augusta, GA. He graduated with honors from Wake Forest University and received his M.D. Degree from the Medical College of Georgia, where he was president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his Internship and Residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY followed by a Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Before coming to Athens in 1990, he was on the faculty of the Medical College of Georgia as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery (Urology).

While in Athens, Dr. Ellison has been involved in many leadership positions at the local and state level in medical, hospital, and volunteer organizations, including serving as president of Athens Regional Medical Center. Dr. Ellison is actively involved in the education of medical students at the Augusta University / University of Georgia Medical Partnership where he is Assistant Clinical Professor. He is certified by the American Board of Urology with a subspecialty certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In addition to his general urology practice, Dr. Ellison's special interests include overactive bladder, incontinence, and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Effective 4/1/17, Dr. Ellison is retired from the practice as a urological surgeon due to disability, but remains engaged in hospital and teaching activities.
